An overview of JAM training

Our Leadership training takes on different forms - whether through seminars, camps, youth- and children's programs. In all of these we incorporate experiential learning techniques in order to ensure maximum learning. Our key strategic partner in most of our training endeavors in Pointman Leadership Institute (http://pointmanglobal.org/)

Camps

Camps Overview

On a camp, a young person has the opportunity to be away from any distractions in their home environment, and has the opportunity listen and learn while engaging in hands-on experiences. This is one of our most effective tools in leadership training.

Camp Varieties

Leadership Teams
JAM hosts different groups for leadership camps e.g. student councils or church groups. We mostly use the Pointman Youth Curriculum that our staff helped to develop.  This curriculum emphasizes the importance of character-based leadership. We address issues of integrity, diligence, responsibility, loyalty, humility to mention only a few. We present these camps at all 4 of our bases and even in other parts of Africa (Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi etc).
School Groups
JAM hosts school groups on a regular basis. These camps are a great way of building team spirit and for groups to get to know one another better. Our emphasis on these camps include topics like communication, unity, conflict management, leadership and team spirit.
Outreach camps
These camps include children and youth from previously disadvantaged communities to attend a 3 to 5 day camp. Most of these campers would never have had an opportunity like this before. Our emphasis on these camps is to the share the Gospel of Jesus, to help young people know their identity and God’s purpose with their lives and to simply have FUN!

Pointman introduction

Pointman is an worldwide leadership training institute that has trained over 70 000 leaders in over 70 countries in character-based leadership since 1994. JAM is the proud developers of the Pointman Youth Leadership Program – an exciting course that uses experiential learning to teach the crucial qualities in effective leadership.
In the curriculum we cover key topics such as “Inspirational and Trustworthy Leadership”, “Leading through Serving” and the 8 character qualities of a Pointman: Integrity, Optimism, Courage, Humility, Diligence, Discipline, Loyalty and Conviction.
JAM presents these seminars to church and non-profit leaders, but our emphasis is youth leaders. These courses are 1-2 days in duration.

youth discipleship

Youth discipleship

We value raising young leaders who can influence their communities for Christ. We believe that this can be done through continual discipleship and nurturing relationships.  JAM is currently partnering with other like-minded organizations to help the leaders and the youth find their God-given calling. We have strong relationships with the local community of Imizamo Yethu where we serve weekly. These groups include the Sakhisiswe Youth Development Program and GAP and VYBE, Valley Church’s youth group.

Children's Programs

We believe that servant leadership can and should be cultivated from a young age. These are the building blocks of their journey with Christ. We believe that training a child in the ways they should go is so important for them to be able to make wise decisions when they are older (Prov. 22:6). We have a weekly children's ministry outreach program in the community of Imizamo Yethu. This is a fun time of games, a Bible lesson and a memory verse.
The JAM base in Limpopo has a daily children's ministry program under the banner of the Dream Centre. This is an education reinforcement program with the purpose of discipleship.
