Mavhuza Village, Limpopo
Mavhuza Village is located in the Limpopo Province, the northern most province of South Africa. The area around Mavhuza Village consists mainly of Tsonga speaking people. JAM’s involvement in Mavhuza village began in 2003, before JAM even officially started as an organization. The chief of the area was appreciative of JAM’s work in the village, and a few years later, gave us a piece of land in the village so that we could stay with the people when we come.
We started building a mission base/camp site on this piece of land in 2007. Our main mission in Mavhuza village is to train and disciple young local leaders. We partner with local churches, helping equip their youth for outreach. We also reach out to those who do not follow Jesus, using different means (from soccer, to kids games, to visiting people at their houses) to build friendships in order to point people to Christ. The campsite also gives us a great tool for youth discipleship.
We have had a number of leadership camps with local youth, and from some of these camps, a local youth team was started. This team regularly gets together at the mission base, where they are discipled by our local JAM representative, Willy Maimele. Throughout the year, when we go to Mavhuza, we further train and equip this team for life and outreach. The goal is for this team to reach out and run camps even when we are not there.
Pray for Mavhuza...
