Letter from Gerhard

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Is.9:6-7
We are approaching the Christmas season and many often reflect on this verse. As I look back on 2020, I can certainly say that I have experienced something of each of God's roles mentioned here.
It was a very challenging year in so many ways - whether financially or emotionally or not being able to plan or do ministry the way we are used to.  God, however, has guided us through it all. He has provided in our every need and has granted us peace in the storm. Contrary to what many believe, this year was really not a waste. It was a year of building faith and character.
In this newsletter you will read about some of the exciting ministry that we were able to be a part of. The last month, however, we needed to slow down again and canceled many activities due to the rise of Covid-19 infections.
We thank each of you for your support through prayer, finances and encouragement during this difficult year. We are in a "second wave" of Covid-19 and Christmas will be different than usual. I pray that it will be a very special Christmas indeed. May you experience the Prince of Peace in a new way!

Transkei

We had the amazing opportunity to visit Zithulele, a small community in the Transkei in October 2020. We were welcomed with open arms and we really appreciated the hospitality of the people of this community. We did a 2-day Pointman Leadership training with the gap year students of a ministry named Sihamba Sonke.  We thoroughly enjoyed working with them, equipping them to become better leaders in the community. It was remarkable how eager these young leaders were to learn more about leadership, and one can only dream of the bright future they have.

Sakhisiswe camp

God made a way where there seemed to be no way. Sakhisiswe is an amazing organization that focuses on uplifting the youth of IY with a holistic approach.
We camped with about  80 young people with so much energy and a hunger for fellowship.
We were mutually encouraged by the time spent in the Word, fellowship and activities. We were filled with joy and laughter.

Zizamele Day Care

There has been so much breakthrough with the educational standard of the school as well as financial provision to employ a caregiver to assist Thembisa. The upgrades of the building and playground also created a safer environment for the children to learn, play and explore.

Character camps

We had 2 character building camps in the beginning of the year. It was filled with adventure and experiential learning.
Eversdal's camp theme was "The 7 Summits Challenge", focusing on accountability, reliability, caring and conservation.
Stellenbosch's camp focused on the 6 values of the School; respect, responsibility, unconditional acceptance, service, integrity and excellence.
